The Power of Multidisciplinary Synergy

The Healthy Environments Research Group (HERG) is a multidisciplinary group of faculty and students at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes through practical design innovation. Our group includes architects, environmental psychologists, health systems engineers, health information technology specialists, computing, cognition and creativity researchers, policy planners, industrial designers, mechanical engineers, healthcare acousticians, physicians and nurses. We teach, conduct research, design and explore innovation, and conduct "bench to bedside" prototyping and testing. Our group particularly focuses on translational research: assembling and assessing evidence, best practices and creating information and technological innovation about how healthcare design can improve patient, family and organizational outcomes and making innovation useful for practice.
